“Inclusion, diversity, equity, and accessibility (IDEA*) are critical to ISSTD’s efforts to provide high-quality clinical education and training and accurate scientific understandings of complex trauma and dissociation. These efforts are in service of benefiting individuals, ISSTD as an organization, the field, and, we hope, the world.” (ISSTD IDEA Statement, 2025)
Are you interested in helping ISSTD advance its goal of applying an IDEA lens across all areas of the organization? If so, we invite you to consider joining the newly formed IDEA Committee.
In late 2025, ISSTD published its organizational IDEA statement, which can be viewed here: https://www.isst-d.org/about-us/idea-statement/. As a committee, our next steps are to use this statement to identify, advocate for, and support the implementation of IDEA-informed policies and practices throughout all aspects of ISSTD—including, but not limited to, staffing, volunteering, membership, and education.
Time Needed:
Two to three hours a month for committee-related tasks and meetings will be one hour bi-monthly via Zoom.
Our next two meetings will be occurring May 22 and July 17 at 1:00 PM US Eastern Time. We will be utilizing a doodle poll for future meeting times to be inclusive to those throughout the world.
If you are not able to attend a meeting live, we will work to have tasks available for committee members to work on between meetings.
Useful Skills:
- Committed to IDEA principles
- Value collaboration, reflection, and accountability
- Willing to engage in ongoing learning and evaluation
- Review and offer feedback on organizational documentation (grant applications, etc.)
- Brainstorm new ways to incorporate IDEA throughout the organization
- Systems-level thinking for IDEA institutional change
