Organized and Extreme Abuse (OEA) SIG Update

The mission of our SIG is focused on issues related to the etiology, evaluation, and effective treatment of trauma and dissociation in clients reporting histories of organized and extreme abuse.

The OEA SIG met at the 2022 ISSTD Annual Conference and 29 of us engaged in a lively conversation. In addition, in the last year we’ve had two virtual meetings; the first was about unexpected boundary complications that happened when serving this population and the second was about community projects, and Amy shared the developments in her project management.

In our last executive meeting, we made plans for another two meetings this year. Sharing our experiences working with survivors is more important than ever, especially in light of our group’s continuous growth. We encourage suggestions from our members for webinars they would like to present from our SIG or webinars they would have an interest in attending.

Position updates: Our chair-elect, Ericha Scott, had to withdraw from the position for personal reasons and the board elected Faige Flakser as the new chair-elect. Faige previously held the position of secretary-elect and since that position is now vacant, we are seeking a volunteer who would like that position. If you are interested in filling that position, please contact the ISSTD Office at membership@isst-d.org for additional information.

We would also like to remind everyone that elections are coming up in August, and we will be considering a slate of volunteers to fill all available positions. Stay tuned!
