New Book Alert!
Moving from Grievance to Hope in Psychoanalysis: Applied Case Studies
Edited by Johanna Dobrich

This volume brings psychoanalytic thinking and practice directly into the social forces that shape our lives, exploring themes such as intergenerational trauma, the legacies of war and refugee displacement, cultural difference, matrescence, gun violence, environmental degradation, and the ways entrenched social hierarchies shape our theories of mind.
Through clinical case studies from leading thinkers in the field, the contributors examine how psychoanalytic practitioners can work within social and collective spaces to understand and address dissociative processes, promote symbolization, repair relational ruptures, and cross-translate across polarizing tensions of difference. Drawing on empathy, imagination, emotional expansion, and collaborative meaning-making, the chapters explore how applied psychoanalytic practice can foster recognition and connection, supporting healing in individuals and communities navigating complex social and political challenges.
The volume is intended for psychoanalysts, psychotherapists, and mental health professionals, as well as students and scholars interested in bringing psychoanalytic presence and practice into broader social contexts. I’m grateful to the many contributors whose clinical wisdom and intellectual generosity made this collection possible.
Part of Routledge’s Psychoanalysis in a New Key series, this book is available now through the publisher: Moving from Grievance to Hope in Psychoanalysis — Routledge
