ISSTD Shifts to Virtual Education

By Christa Kruger, MBBCh, MMed(Psych), FCPsych(SA), MD

Dear fellow ISSTD Members,

I hope you are healthy and safe, and coping.

Even in these difficult times, all clinicians still need their continuing education credits. ISSTD makes this easy by offering a very wide range of virtual educational opportunities in the upcoming months.

There will be more than ten Professional Training Program (PTP) classes between now and the end of the year, ranging from beginner’s classes on complex trauma and dissociation, to the Masters Seminar.

The four-module ISSTD EMDR training that starts in September will also include two virtual modules and contingency plans for changing the November in-person module to virtual if needed.

Do not forget the ongoing Webinar program. A webinar is typically 90 minutes long. We still have two Spanish webinars and four English webinars scheduled in 2020. We hope in the coming months to have more than 100 hours of recorded webinar and conference content ready for purchase.

What was going to be the Nashville Regional Conference in September has now morphed into another completely virtual conference. It will take place on the weekend of September 11-12 this year. We are also hard at work planning for another multi-day, multi-session fully virtual conference in October. More details on this event will be available in the coming weeks.

These digital educational offerings vary in price, so that at every price point there is an opportunity to participate.

For those who are experiencing financial difficulties or would otherwise not be able to afford training, there will be another round of Goodwin Educational Fund applications. These awards are aimed specifically at defraying registration expenses of an ISSTD Annual Conference, Regional Conference, Virtual Conference, or Professional Training Program Course for mental health professionals of limited financial means, who would otherwise be unable to obtain appropriate basic training in the treatment of complex trauma and dissociation. The upcoming call for Goodwin applications will launch on August 3.

ISSTD – your one-stop shop for virtual education on complex trauma and dissociation!

With best wishes,
Christa Krüger, ISSTD President, Pretoria, South Africa
