An exciting opportunity for international advocacy!
This month’s Volunteer Position Spotlight shines on the opportunity to become a Committee Member with the ISSTD’s Committee to the United Nations (UN)!
The ISSTD’s Committee to the UN is looking for two new members with an interest in international mental health advocacy to join the team. The Committee to the UN plays a large role in promoting the ISSTD as the foremost place to learn about and study the phenomenology, diagnosis and treatment of complex trauma and dissociation, representing the mission and vision of the ISSTD at NGO committee meetings, and providing basic education at NGO committee meetings on complex trauma, dissociative disorders, and other related mental health topics.
The ideal committee members are passionate about international advocacy, and persevering in their efforts to change large systems. This role requires creativity, repetition, and patience, as the committee is often involved in drafting statements and factsheets to distribute at UN meetings (in New York and other UN hubs, as well as online). Consistency and passion for the ISSTD’s mission and vision are important skills and attributes for anyone in this role.
The committee meets four times per year, and members attend UN meetings in person and virtually to advocate for trauma-informed approaches across disciplines.
