Since 2017, ISSTD has been fortunate to have Mary Pat Hanlin at the helm. As the Chief Executive Officer, Mary Pat works tirelessly coordinating every aspect of the Society, from budgets to event planning to strategic planning and more. Mary Pat has seen ISSTD through the most significant transitions to date, including our transition from an association management company to independent operations. Our Chief Staff Officer has a hand in every aspect of operations and management, and Mary Pat’s dedication and leadership have been a cornerstone of the organization for the last eight years. Her guidance, forethought, and strategic thinking have led to significant growth in ISSTD and its programming. As ISSTD embarks on the transition to a new executive director, we are grateful for the foundation that Mary Pat has laid for the future. Take a minute to learn more about Mary Pat below!
What drew you to ISSTD? How long have you been here? What do you enjoy about working here?
I joined ISSTD nearly 10 years ago when I moved to the DC area for graduate school. Non-profits have always been where I saw myself working and I applied to a number of association management companies, which is how I found ISSTD. I have enjoyed seeing the growth of ISSTD over the years, including the expansion of our membership and training offerings. The people make ISSTD what it is and I have worked with so many amazing volunteer leaders during my time at ISSTD. Being a part of our transition from an association management company to independent operation and navigating the challenges of COVID-19 have been some of the things I am most proud of in my time with ISSTD.
What is something you would like us to know about your job/role?
The Chief Staff Officer is truly a jack of all trades who touches every aspect of the Society from governance to finance to program management and human resources. This type of involvement has made me learn so many new things on the fly and have plans A-F for everything.
What do you enjoy in your time off from work?
Outside of work, I love to travel both domestically and internationally. After a long day, you can often find me catching up on tv or reading a book. Family is also important to me and being an auntie is my favorite title in the world.
