Funding the Future

Spotlight on ISSTD Funds: David Caul Graduate Research Fund

The David Caul Graduate Research Fund is designed to support research that is primarily concerned with dissociation or closely related topics. The award is named for David Caul, MD, the fourth president of ISSTD in 1987, (then known as the International Society for the Study of Multiple Personality & Dissociation) a dedicated and beloved leader in the field of dissociation. Graduate students and undergraduate honors students are eligible to apply for grants up to $1500 USD. The application period for this fund is May/June annually, and up to two awards are given annually.

For a number of years, this fund was supported through the General Fund. Direct donations to this fund were opened in 2019. At this time, this fund is the one most in need of donations to ensure that we can continue to fund important student research. One time or recurring donations can be made through the ISSTD website.

In addition to direct donations, a raffle or similar event is put on annually at the Annual Conference to help raise money for this important fund. This year we will be holding a “Lucky Draw” where conference attendees can purchase tickets for their chance at winning prizes ranging from discounted learning in the Center for Advanced Studies, to free registration for the 2026 annual conference, to a one year all-access education package and more! Every draw is a winner, and there are even a few surprise prizes in store. Tickets are $5.00 each or five tickets for $20.00. Tickets can be purchased in the Society Lounge or from one of our volunteers wearing a green apron.

Thank you to all those who have supported this fund via direct donations or participation in events that support this Fund. We look forward to continuing to provide funding for important student research for years to come!
