The Professional Training Program, chaired by Sandra Bouabjian, coordinates ISSTD’s PTP courses. The ISSTD Professional Training Program is comprised of nine courses in three categories: Adult Training Courses, Child & Adolescent Training Courses, and Spanish Training Courses. Courses are offered in two formats: in-person and live teleseminar. Courses are offered across four levels, ranging from beginner to Master level. Continuing education credits are offered for all English courses taught in the USA or Canada. The ISSTD Certificate Program credits are offered for all courses. For more information on the courses click here.
This year the PTP program has:
- Recruited new instructors to teach the PTP courses
- Worked with existing instructors to teach higher level courses
- Been planning courses for the future semesters
- Prepared criteria for advanced standing that need to be fulfilled for students who would like to skip the level one. These criteria (and other information about the courses) are available here
- Begun to teach the new level three advanced topics in complex trauma and dissociative disorders for the first time. Course Directors Su Baker, MEd and Joan Turkus, MD lead participants through nine modules specifically designed to deepen their knowledge of the field. These have commenced in October 2020
- Updated all the adult courses to comply with the requirements of the US Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) after ISSTD was approved as an Approved Continuing Education (ACE) Provider during 2020. This has allowed ISSTD to offer ACE credits for social workers participating in ISSTD courses, webinars, and virtual conferences
