This New York Times Magazine article portrays the lived-experience of dissociative identity disorder (DID) in an accurate and compassionate way. Featuring Milissa Kaufman, psychiatrist and researcher with lived experience, the article explains the role of dissociation as an “ingenious survival tool” within the context of childhood trauma. Illustrations by Moonassi make visible the internal experience in DID.
