Clinical Reflections

ISSTD News Seeks Submissions for a New Clinical Reflections Column

ISSTD News is excited to announce the launch of a new feature – Clinical Reflections. Clinical Reflections will be a quarterly feature publishing articles relating to the assessment and treatment of complex trauma and dissociation. We aim to make this column a place where clinicians can write, read, reflect upon, and discuss issues and ideas related to their work in the field of complex trauma and dissociative disorders.

Many who work in this field feel somewhat isolated and that we lack spaces to write and read about the type of cases or clinical issues that are most relevant to us. We would like our Clinical Reflections to take some small steps to fill that gap.

However, in order to make Clinical Reflections happen, we need your help! You, as our members, are best placed to share information, treatment tips, and reflections with other interested colleagues.

Clinical Reflections aims to publish articles written by practicing clinicians to share clinical knowledge and experience. Priority is given to articles with an applied clinical focus, that can be used by clinicians to enhance their practice. This of the type of article that a clinician-in-practice can write, from their own clinical experience. Examples could include:

  • A discussion of a clinical case/cases you have worked with (obviously with written permission and carefully de-identified).
  • Exploration of themes or issues that occur in therapy.
  • General discussions of clinical issues – e.g. a review and discussion paper.
  • Clinical reflections which thoughtfully explore your own experience and learnings in therapy.
  • Opinion pieces on clinical issues relevant to the complex trauma and dissociation field.
  • A written summary of a conference presentation you have given.

We are seeking submissions for our first column which will be published in May 2022. It is our aim that a regular column will continue quarterly from that point onwards. Articles will be peer-reviewed and are expected to be original articles and based on sound psychological concepts. Articles should demonstrate scholarly, professional writing, but can be somewhat more informal than a standard journal article.
