ISSTD Member wins Award for Therapeutic Community Based Art Program

ISSTD Member Noula Diamantopoulos has been named Silver Award winner of the 2023 Women Changing the World Awards – People’s Choice for Health & Wellbeing

The Women Changing the World Awards are international awards which celebrate and recognize women achieving outstanding success in a wide variety of fields including sustainability, humanitarian work, leadership, advocacy, education, health and more. The awards hope to inspire other women to play a role in making the world a better place.

Noula won the silver medal in the category People’s Choice – Health & Wellbeing. Her medal is for her work on the BeCause Movement. The BeCause Movement is an Australian NFP that provides expressive art-based, therapeutic resources to individuals and communities around the world. Through collaborating with psychologists, psychotherapists, therapist, researchers and artists, BeCause designs, creates and facilities workshops, experiences and webinars which bring people together to explore the use of arts for mental heath and well-being. The movement advocates for the increased adoption of social prescription as a relevant and valid treatment for mental health issues and is also able to contribute to research findings on the medicinal effects of art practice.

Noula has been foundational in encouraging ISSTD News to have a focus on creative arts and established our occasional column Creative Space. In the near future we look forward to hearing more about Noula’s work in the BeCause movement and her other creative projects in a special interview for Creative Space.
