Fourth Quarter Board Brief

We hope this message finds you well! Here are a few updates from ISSTD’s Board of Directors.

New Executive Director

Our new executive director, Tim Shaw, joined the organization in late October, and has now fully launched into the role, attending myriad meetings, building relationships with countless volunteers, and developing strategies with the executive committee, Board, and his staff. Here are a few words from Tim:

I am excited and grateful for the opportunity to be your Executive Director. I am in the process of transitioning with Mary Pat, and especially looking forward to the upcoming Annual Conference in March. Hope to see many of you there.

Saying Farewell to Outgoing Director Members and Officers

Earlier this fall, ISSTD Fellow Jill Hosey departed from the Board for personal reasons. We deeply appreciate Jill’s many contributions during her years on the Board, service as PTP faculty, dedication to projects on the Child and Adolescent SIG, and pioneering efforts to establish a Regional Online Community in Canada.

Eva Young, who has served on the Board for two consecutive terms, will be rotating off at the end of the month. Eva has recently been highly active in developing the child and adolescent treatment guidelines. While we will be sad not to see her at Board meetings in the coming year, we are grateful that she will continue to be involved in influential ways, for example, by continuing to donate her time, energy and good ideas on the IDEA workgroup (now committee).

Past president, Peter Maves, who has served in a plethora of roles over a span of decades at ISSTD (he is current Chair of the Nominating & Audit Committees), will also be rotating off the Board at the turn of the year. We are grateful for his innumerable contributions, and are excited by his willingness to be assistive in liaising with other national and international organizations on ISSTD’s behalf.

Newly Formed IDEA (Inclusivity, Diversity, Equity and Access) Committee

Through the continued efforts of Michael Coy, Jennifer Gómez, and other working group members, a motion passed at the December Board meeting to convert the IDEA working group into a standing committee. The group has been at work over the course of the year with a number of projects, including developing an official IDEA statement and, more recently, completing and sharing the results of a survey of Board members attitudes related to IDEA.

Thank you
