The Psychiatric Training Task Force, established in August 2024, is making strides to enhance psychiatric education within the ISSTD. Comprised of dedicated psychiatrists and a therapist from our membership, this Task Force is spearheading efforts to create innovative training opportunities for psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, and residents.
An important initial step in these efforts is the development of a half-day pre-conference workshop for the 2025 Annual Conference, entitled “P13 – Complex Trauma and Dissociation: What Psychiatrists Need to Know… but May Not.” This workshop, scheduled for Friday, March 14th, will be presented by Benjamin Israel, Judith Lewis, and Timothy Brewerton. It will offer targeted, high-quality training while expanding access to Continuing Medical Education (CME) credits—a much-needed resource identified through member feedback and program reviews. The need for this initiative became clear during an analysis of ISSTD’s Center for Advanced Studies (CFAS) programming, which revealed limited engagement with CME opportunities at our Annual Conference and growing demand for psychiatric-focused education. With this in mind, the Task Force has set ambitious objectives:
- Identify opportunities to expand psychiatric training across CFAS programs.
- Assess the costs and feasibility of launching, marketing, and sustaining these programs.
- Develop bold one-year and five-year plans to guide these efforts into the future.
The Psychiatric Training Task Force is positioning ISSTD as a strong competitor in the field of psychiatric education, ensuring our society supports its members with relevant and impactful training opportunities.
