The ED SIG was created a year ago because a number of ISSTD members were interested in the relationship between eating disordered behaviors and thinking and dissociation. These clinicians wanted to understand more and decided to start an ED SIG.
Right now, the ED Executive Committee consists of Deborah Cohen, LCSW, Chair, Annie Goldsmith, RD Moderator, Beth Martin, LCSW, Secretary. The Chair Elect is Kylie Svenson, the Moderator Elect is Mary Moore-Farrell, LISW and Secretary Elect is Ashley Roehrig, RD.
As the SIG is new, we are finding our way in exploring eating disorders and dissociation while providing the ISSTD community with a place to discuss the intersectionality of these two topics, so we can all learn. To this end, we have held monthly discussion groups in a relatively free flowing way. We have decided to be a little more topic focused going forward.
The next ED SIG meeting will be on Saturday, Sept 23 from 11:30 – 1:00 EST with the topic being Assessing Eating Disorders and/or eating issues with clients. We will have some experiential exercises so that group members will have a chance to learn and then practice how to explore eating/body issues with clients. Annie Goldsmith, RD and Deborah Cohen, LCSW will be there from the Executive Committee
We are in the process of planning monthly meetings and topics to talk about, so now would be a great time to join, and let us know what topics you are interested in. Discussions so far have been lively and really fun.
