2025 Second Quarter Board Brief

Greetings,

We hope this message finds you on a sunny sojourn. Here are a few updates from the ISSTD Board of Directors:

Chicago Regional Conference
The upcoming regional conference is nearly here! Scheduled for July 18-19 in Downtown Chicago, at the DePaul University Loop Campus, the event will feature two engaging full-day trainings. On Friday, Wendy Lemke will present on “Hypnotic Applications Across Phase Oriented Treatment for Trauma & Dissociative Disorders.” Then, on Saturday, attendees will learn from ISSTD President, D. Michael Coy, on the topic “Exploring Elsewhere Thought Knowns: New Considerations for Using EMDR Therapy to Treat Dissociation.” In addition, the Midwest ROC is hosting a lunchtime discussion on Friday featuring Janet Migdow, titled “How We Build It,” where attendees will learn from examples in Chicago how to create a sense of local community among trauma and dissociation-focused therapist and researchers. Executive Transition Task force
After a decade of forward thinking and unflagging dedication to ISSTD, our current CEO, Mary Pat Hanlin, is preparing to transition out of the role at the turn of the year. A group of nine volunteers has been assembled for the purpose of shepherding the process of locating a new executive director. So far, this task force has met twice, developed a timeline, and is finishing up the process of creating a job description. An advertising campaign, drawing on the resources of the HR company with which we contract, will begin later this summer.

Conflict of Interest Task Force
Another task force is in the process of revising the existing conflict of interest policy. The group has been studying examples from other associations and is excited to create a policy with language that is accessible and that includes helpful examples of conflicts of interest that are relatable to members of our association. The task force also intends to create an informal process to check whether a potential conflict exists. They also intend to develop documents that spell out how to remediate conflicts and appeal decisions.

Board Development
Recently, the Board joined an online resource and training center called BoardSource. Included in membership is a certification sequence for nonprofit leadership as well as customizable on-demand trainings. Some trainings promise to instruct in management practices and orient to models of governance. The platform also includes to tools for self-evaluation.

You are appreciated

Thank you all very much for your membership and ongoing support of ISSTD. Please be encouraged to keep in touch; we are always excited to receive feedback and suggestions. Also, we are searching for members interested in running to join the ISSTD Board of Directors. There is a Board interest meeting scheduled for July 25 (email invitation to circulate soon).

With gratitude,

ISSTD Board of Directors
